What is your view on Augmented Reality?
Augmented Reality is not limited to wearing 3D-glasses or using computer-based simulations, to modify our view in the world. It is much more a part of our daily life. Actually the whole world appears to be augmented reality since we all constantly influence it and create new artificial realities in search for a perfect world. Everything is man-made in a way – from mayor global contexts like the climate to individual daily life choices.
How does augmented reality influence the way landscape architects work?
In the sense of understanding the whole world as a augmented reality and accepting our daily environment as “fake“ and artificial, we all have to take on responsibility for influencing it in a positive manner. Looking back in history, landscape architecture has always been about the creation of new realities that fulfil the desires of the people using it. Today, our task as landscape architects is to create an augmented reality by designing a dialogue between the desires and different interests of the individual and the community, which does not stop when the design is finished but continues by using the space day to day. We need to act as the link between the real and the fake world.
